New Mission Baptist Church History

New Mission Baptist Church was founded August 14, 1988, by Dr. Walter O Whitfield, the founding Pastor. Through his vision from God, Pastor Whitfield saw the need for a place of worship in the developing Tiffany Pines community comprised of mostly young families.

After much praying and many hours of planning, Pastor Whitfield purchased a house on the corner of 680 Walker Street where Vacation Bible School was initially held in June of 1988.

The first worship service was held August 14, 1988, with a congregation of four adults and six youths. As time went on the membership of New Mission Baptist Church grew until the walls in the house had to be removed to accommodate its worshipers. With-in twenty- two months, of the church being planted it had to be moved to its present location 375 Platinum St, a larger property to accommodate the physical growth of the church

The year 2000, Pastor Whitfield had another vision and saw the need for a fellowship hall and a Christian education center. March 2003, Pastor Whitfield, dedicated the fellowship hall to the late Reverend Daniel Ferguson. During the year 2012, Pastor Whitfield's health began to fail. Yet he fought the good fight until October 25, 2017, Pastor Whitfield passed on to rest from this life and into the arms of our Heavenly Father. His dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to New Mission Baptist Church will forever be felt in the hearts of all who knew him.

June 9, 2019, New Mission Baptist Church installed Reverend John O Graves as Pastor to carry on the work of God and our founding pastor. Pastor Graves Vision is be “Determined to know God Personally, To Represent God Daily and To Share God’s Love through Service."
